Who is Merging?

Anchorage Fire and EMS

The Anchorage Fire and EMS Department has served the city of Anchorage Kentucky for over 100 years.

Protecting an area of approximately 5 square miles, the Department provides 24-hour Fire and EMS services.

Each 24-hour shift is staffed by 6 personnel who operate 2 advanced life support ambulances and 1 fire engine located at the fire station in the heart of Anchorage.

Middletown Fire Protection District

Formed in 1940 when the Jefferson County Government turned the responsibility for fire protection over to local communities, the District provides 24-hour Fire and Rescue services to nearly 22 square miles of the eastern portion of Louisville Metro.

Each 24-hour shift is staffed with 13 career personnel who operate 2 fire engines, 1 aerial ladder truck, and 1 Battalion Chief.  The District's highly trained volunteer firefighters supplement this daily staffing and increase the safety and efficiency of operations.

This equipment and staff are strategically located throughout the community between 3 fire stations.

The New District

Stations

The new department will continue to operate the existing 4 fire stations in their current locations.

Apparatus

The new department will be adding at least 2 ambulances to the combined fleets of the existing departments.  When all ambulances are operating, each fire station will have 1 fire apparatus and 1 ALS ambulance with a number of reserve ambulances and fire trucks.

First Responders

The overall number of first responders will increase. When the merger plan is fully enacted, each 24-hour shift will have at least 26 personnel; a 42% increase over current staffing levels.  Volunteer first responders will also continue to play a vital role in protecting our community.
